The Ghaf Tree
This is an interactive installation that aims at creating an awareness on a tree that is considered a national symbol to the UAE. This tree is on the verge of extinction due to overgrazing and urbanization. We introduced the topic through an animation explaining the importance of the Ghaf tree. We constructed a box that contains a miniature version of the tree and surrounded it with sand. This was to symbolize our needed role in protecting this tree. We produced a pepper's ghost effect that allowed for augmenting reality on to the tree to create a better experience for the user. By installing a proximity sensor, we managed to create a game where the user is faced with trying to keep the tree safe from overgrazing and urbanization.
